Sheraton or Westin Hotel Near The Hirschfeld Theatre?

If you had to choose which one would you select? We are excited about going to see David Hyde Pierce in his new show Curtains at the Hirschfeld next week (27th) and yesterday my wife goes and breaks her leg!

We want to get as close to the theatre as possible as she will be in a walking cast.

What would you suggest if your choice was between the Westin New York Times Square on 8th Avenue between West 42nd and West 43rd Streets and The Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, which Expedia says is ';amid Broadway theaters'; but doesn%26#39;t include a specific address.

I can burn some Starpoints at either Hotel, I think, so both places are being considered. We need nothing fancy. Just clean and non-smoking and well ventilated. We will need to find parking. There will be just the 2 of us, and a wheelchair!

Obviously we want the best ';fit'; for her situation.

Thanks for your thoughts! Could use a restaurant tip too!

Sheraton or Westin Hotel Near The Hirschfeld Theatre?

The Westin is much much closer and a lot newer. That%26#39;s a good choice. ;) We%26#39;ve heard the club floor is not worth the extra points since it%26#39;s on a lower floor and the breakfast isn%26#39;t very good. Will your wife be able to sit in her seat at the theater? They might accomodate you in some way. (an aisle seat etc.)

For parking, go to iconparking.com and compare the prices to what you%26#39;d pay at the hotel. It%26#39;s not cheap in that area unless you go all the way west to 10th or 11 ave.

If you think the visit would be easier with a wheelchair, Falk Drug rents them.

Thanks, nywhiz, for the help and the suggestion about parking. Hadn%26#39;t even thought about it, yet!

Your telling me that the Westin is much, much closer to the Hirschfeld Theater than the Sheraton is a great help to us.

Much obliged.

How about a couple of restaurant choices?

The theater is just off the corner of 8th ave on 45th st. The Westin is on 43 st %26amp; 8th ave. Just across from the theater is a Japanese restaurant I like (NOT fancy) called Kodama. It%26#39;s a real neighborhood place. On 46th st. between 8th %26amp; 9th ave. (just a block north of the theater) is restaurant row, one place after another. The most popular on the block are Joe Allen%26#39;s (basic American food, also not fancy), House of Brews (I%26#39;ve never been but looks like good pub food), Orso, nice Italian owned by same folks as Joe Allen%26#39;s, .

John%26#39;s pizzeria is a block from the hotel on 45th st. Famous for their pizza and in a converted church. Again, not fancy. Sardi%26#39;s is also on the block with John%26#39;s. It%26#39;s considered a tourist trap by some. I think the food has gotten better although maybe a bit pricey for what it is, but I like the caraciatures on the walls. On 42 st., just south of the Westin there%26#39;s Chez Josephine, a nice french brasserie with live music (after 8 I think).

Also have a look at Esca, Le Madeleine and Marseille. They%26#39;re a block over, on 9th Ave. at 43rd St. Check menupages.com for reviews and sample menus (withoutdated prices).

Go early to the theater and ask to speak to the House Manager. They%26#39;ll help where possible to seat you in an accessible seat -- some of the aisle seats have sides that swing out, for example. Also, there should be an accessible ladies room that must be unlocked by an usher. Ask about that too.

Also, when making dinner reservations, let them know your wife is using a wheelchair. Some restaurants are down a step or two, which could be a problem.

Good point about the stairs, Bettina. There are stairs down to Joe Allen%26#39;s and I think Orso.

Thanks, many many thanks to you both.

We eventually stayed at the W Hotel and loved it

Very expensive but had to get near the Hirschfeld and this hotel turned out to be almost around the corner!

Great luck to have found it.

And the show was a sensation.

We will never, ever be wanting to spend as much $$$$$ as we had to shell out for the W again, but this once in a lifetime visit was actually made the most memorable because of this lucky choice.

The W was wonderful.

And I%26#39;ll be posting a detailed review of our 2 nite stay there later.

This is a thank you to Bettina and ny whiz.%26#39;

Thank you.

And if anybody wants detail about our 2 nite stay at the W before I post the Review, please feel invited to Private Message me.

I%26#39;m so glad it all worked out, I was hoping you%26#39;d post back. How did the rest of the trip go? Where%26#39;d you end up eating?

(I%26#39;m finally going to see ';Curtains'; Sunday night.)

Anxious to hear your review...I have a reservation at The W and at Doubletree Suites...mainly b/c we want to be able to go the to TGving parade without much hassle. we have 2 girls, 12 and 13...is the W too ';she she'; for kids...if you know what I mean? Would we ';fit in'; more at the Doubltree Suites....which I think are next door???

Ive stayed at the Double Tree...and you will have quite a bit more room there than at the W. The second room and additional bathroom space and 2 tvs may be helpful if you are traveling with kids.
