Avenue Q vs Christmas Spectacular, or both?

Hi guys, my bf and I are in NYC for the 4-8 Dec 07 and I am umming and erring over what shows to see. My bf is 30 and I think he%26#39;ll like Avenue Q, but looking back at past posts, the Christmas Spectacular is highly recommended. The cost to see both shows is quite high and I am worried about waiting and risking the TKTS booth in Dec, so I am trying to decide whther to see one or the other or bite the bullet and go to both, what are your recommendations?

Avenue Q vs Christmas Spectacular, or both?

I%26#39;ve not seen Avenue Q, but the Christmas Spectacular was really good. I think you have to see the Rockettes at least once in your lifetime!!! We got tickets for that at the TKTS booth for Thanksgiving day last year so you might be in luck for the first week of December.

I also remember Avenue Q being at the TKTS booth most days last year around Thanksgiving, but some of the family didn%26#39;t want to see that!!

Avenue Q vs Christmas Spectacular, or both?

Hi there,

i am in nyc this november 20th-24th,will the christmas spectacular be showing then and if so what theatre?

sarah,me and my wife were in nyc last november and went to see phantom of the opera and mary poppins, both productions were superb,

Daz

The Christmas Spectacular is in Radio City near the Rockefeller Centre. I%26#39;m not sure what date the show starts though. I expect they have a website or someone reading this might know

The Christmas Spectacular is something everyone should see at least once in their lives. I still remember the ones I saw as a child (I grew up in NYC).

While I haven%26#39;t seen Avenue Q, my daughter (22 years old) went last year and loved it so much she bought the CD. I have listened to it and it sounds like a very good, very irreverant play. I bet your bf would enjoy that as much or more than the Christmas Spectacular.

If there is any way you can manage it, I%26#39;d try to see both.

:)

will try to see christmas spectacular if its on while i am there, hope to see blue man group aswell

The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular was the absolute highlight of my trip to NYC, gorgeous theatre and the show really is spectacular! As the americans would say, it was ';AWESOME';!!!!!

It starts end November and this year is a special one as it is their anniversary. The time of year you are going is spot on too, sales in shops and the lighting ceremonies for many trees/shop lights too.

Don%26#39;t forget a trip to FAO Shwartz toy shop and the other thing we enjoyed was a downtown loop guided bus tour, where are you staying? We stayed at The Avalon Hotel, spacious rooms one block from Empire State Building, great value. Have great trip!

i am staying at the wellington hotel on 7th avenue and 55th street,

last year stayed at hotel new yorker on 34th street and 8th avenue,

seven weeks on tuesday,CAN;T WAIT

Hi Sarah

I%26#39;ll be coming to NY on 18th December and have already booked and paid for tickets to see the Christmas Spectacular.

Everyone I%26#39;ve spoken to over here (England), who have ever been to NY at christmas time all rave about it and say that you have just got to go as it%26#39;s so OTT!

I think that you really ought to go - it%26#39;s all part of the christmas magic isn%26#39;t it?

I hope you enjoy your trip.

Janet

I don%26#39;t think any 2 shows could be more poles apart than Avenue Q and Radio City Christmas Show. I%26#39;ve been to both and loved both...so..Radio City is much more family oriented and has some religious overtones...very tasteful and of course the Rockettes are justly famous. Avenue Q is what I call Sesame Street on drugs...hyterically funny and so clever. my husband and grown kids(twenties and thirty) loved Avenue Q. Go to both if at all possible.

Here%26#39;s another thought. Avenue Q may play in London at some point; Radio City will always be only in New York.

By the way, both will be playing the dates you will be in NY. I hope you have a super vacation and love New York as we do.

KInda comparing apples and spitballs, you might say.

Avenue Q is a smart-a$$ social satire using a Sesame Street motif. Great for folks who appreciate South Park and who enjoyed shows like Sesame Street or Pee-Wee%26#39;s Playhouse when they were kids. Pretty ingenious and funny!

The Christmas Spectacular is also highly-skilled, over-the-top and one-of-a-kind, but in the opposite way. It is very wholesome, and - as they say - ';specatcular';. Precision choreography, cool costumes, Xmas song favorites, etc. Nothing else quite like the live Nativity, complete with actual camels, lllamas, donkeys, etc. on stage. Very heart-warming and mesmerizing.

I%26#39;d suggest booking the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, and then trying your luck at the TKTS booths while you%26#39;re here if you feel like you can splurge a little more.
