My husband and I are traveling with our 2 kids to italy. (ages 6 mo %26amp; 3). We have a 5 hour layover at JFK %26amp; I%26#39;m wondering if there is a park or anything close where we could go to get some of our wiggles out before another long flight. Thanks
5 hour layover with kids at JFK
Like most modern-era ariports in large cities, JFK was placed years ago in what used to be our ';boonies'; and is surrounded by marshlands, highways and residential areas.
Besides packing extra Nyquil or playing on the Tarmac, not too much you can go see and come back in 5 hours without risking long lines of re-check in, security, etc.
Also, in today%26#39;s wacky world of flying, the length of the layover could magically shrink or expand, and you wouldn%26#39;t know until you got here.
If, however, you want to risk it, you could take a yello taxi to, say, a mall in Queens, like The Queens Center, and just run around for an hour. Note that since this destination is in Queens, not Manhattan, you%26#39;d simply pay the meter (plus any tip) on the taxi - not the flat $45 rate.

I have no clue, but I just wanted to say hello to the Vancouverite. I%26#39;m originally from Kelso.
%26gt;I have no clue%26lt;
How interesting!
Why not send a PM when you have no factual response to a query?
The problem with taking a taxi to any place in Queens, though (such as Flushing Meadow Park, where the little zoo might make a nice diversion) is that you will have a VERY hard time getting back to the airport: taxis simply do not cruise for fares in Queens the way they do in Manahttan, or at the airports
Sorry to have interrupted your history of informative and educational responses, Ednoo!
We have much the same layover in December en route from Orlando to Shannon.
Flew out of JFK three years ago and cant remember which terminal we used but I just know there was a very poor choice of restaurants and shops compared to Newark. I was just wondering are the facilities better at various terminals in JFK.

I%26#39;m truly impressed with your ability for bringing on the snark for a non-native! NY has tarnished you as much as me!!! ; )
sorry - didnt mean to be a threadjack!
waterford - I think its JFK%26#39;s terminal 1 that has all the great stores and restaurants.
thanks evening
I just flew out of terminal 8 - American - whilst still no where near as good as say Heathrow, it%26#39;s been updated and has a larger duty free to peruse, together with a couple of newagents, jewellers (sp), Museum store and a mini food court.....
