Will be coming back to NYC in spring of 08. We are taking the kids this time....14 year old son, 11 year old daughter. Any suggestions for a show that they both may enjoy?
Broadway suggestions....family
Lion King will still be playing, that%26#39;s always popular. But between now and then, there will be lots more opening.
Just a word of caution on two shows that ';look'; family oriented, but are really adult shows: '; Avenue Q,'; and ';The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.';
Broadway suggestions....family
Mary Poppins, Lion King and the not yet opened Little Mermaid are some others.
gocitykids.com is a great website for info on kids%26#39; stuff in NYC. They will have reviews.
There%26#39;s also a theater especially for kids, the new amsterdam.
Whiz, I think you mean The New Victory Theatre.
Mary Poppins is playing at The New Amsterdam, great show for all ages, by the way.
There is always Stomp, Off-Broadway but always a hit.
Yup, I meant New Victory. ;) Thanks
Hairspray is another good family choice if you don%26#39;t want to go the Disney route!
Hairspray has one scene where teens sing a song about wanting to ';do it';, so consider that.
Probably nothing they haven%26#39;t seen on TV or the web or schoolyard, but probably not with fancy choreography and set changes.
What song is that, specifically?
I%26#39;ve seen the show more times than I care to admit on here...lol. I think it%26#39;s quite a family friendly show that has a few good lessons in it (racism, size descrimination, being yourself, not compromising your beliefs even if it isn%26#39;t popular).
All I can even come up with in regards to your comment is in ';I can hear the bells';, Tracy says she ';won%26#39;t go all the way'; when she daydreams about a date with heartthrob Link. And ';Without Love';, the leads kiss and sing a line or two about wanting to kiss. .
That%26#39;s all the ';doing it'; I can come up with?!? Hardly something that a 14 yr old or an 11 yr old hasn%26#39;t heard before or anything that%26#39;s risque and no entire songs devoted to ';doing it';.
The movie got a PG rating and was pretty consistent with the stage show.
Lion King. i thought mary poppins was good, but too long.
We saw Hairspray on Tuesday night. There were 2 young girls behind us - about 12 years old. They were laughing and having a great time. I didn%26#39;t see anything that wouldn%26#39;t be appropriate for an 11 and 14 year old.
Hope this helps!
My family (girls 15,13,son 9) loved Wicked, and enjoyed Mary Poppins (they didn%26#39;t think it was too long). Hubby, oldest daughter and I liked Hairspray as well.
