New Years Eve Opera over at 10...then what?

Hi,

If I would go to the Met Opera on New Years Eve and see a performance that supposedly(?) ends at 10:05...

I am worried I won%26#39;t be able to make it ';anywhere'; by midnight, is this a concern? I would be on foot or at the mercy of a taxi, carriage, etc.

- how long does it take to ';get out of the building'; in the swarm of people?

- could i actually get a taxi right away from there on nye? or would i be waiting 30 mins for a taxi?

- if I wanted to do a new years eve dinner at a NEARBY restuarant after the opera, what restuarant suggestions would be close and nice for a new years eve touristy kind of thing?

- Also any hotel suggestions near the met?

Thank you.

There are a number of restaurants mentioned in this thread:

See if one of them will take reservations as late as 10:30, and then go to the fireworks in Central Park at midnight.

Lincoln Center is on the upper west side (not that far up, nearish midtown). I will give you names of some hotels, but it would help to have an idea of your budgets both for hotel and restaurant. A way for you to do some of this research yourself is to get a map of Lincoln Center on mapquest.com and then search for nearby restaurants and hotels. Of course, you won%26#39;t know which are good or bad. ;)

There are fireworks in Central Park at midnight and Lincoln Center is not far from the park. So one idea would be to go to dinner at the Boathouse in Central Park and then walk outside for the fireworks. Some other restaurant ideas near Lincoln Center/not far from the park are

Josephina

La Boite en Bois

Nick %26amp; Toni%26#39;s

Picholine

Telepan

Cafe Luxembourg

Rosa Mexicana

For a really blow out meal and view, Asiate in the Mandarin Oriental hotel might have a view of the fireworks. Dizzy%26#39;s Coca Cola, a jazz venue with food also in the same building would be fun.

For hotels, probably the nicest near Lincoln Center is On the

Avenue, although recent reviews are troubling. There%26#39;s a Comfort Inn Central Park West that%26#39;s a bit closer in a great location, but rooms are reeeeeallly small. There are several b %26amp; b%26#39;s in the area that are very well regarded including Inn New York City and Country in the City, wymanhouse.com and the more budget minded jacksbandb.com but these b %26amp; b%26#39;s may have minimum stay requirements, esp. for NYE.

Post back with budget and/or other questions.
