Cayuga Lake wineries

My husband and I are planning a half a day trip to a few finger lakes wineries around the Cayuga Lake area this weekend and are interested in finding out wihich ones we should definately hit. We like Rieslings the best and red wines that are a little sweeter, not so dry. We are also looking for a nice place for lunch while we are out. Any recommendations?

Mrs. Crampton - A spot not to miss is Sheldrake Point Winery in Ovid. On the premises is a bistro called Simply Red. The chef there (a woman) is quite talented. The winery also has an excellent selection of wines and a superb view.

Great! That was one on our list for visitng and a possible lunch but I had heard mixed reviews about it. The onher one I heard was fairly good was Knapp Winery and their restaurant. Any info on that one?

I agree about Sheldrake. Simply Red is awesome! I also really love Goosewatch Winery. They do LOTS of different types of wines and all are very representative of how good wine in our area can be.

Cayuga Ridge is great, too. The people are very nice and the facility is in a huge old restored barn. It is very authentic and the family takes their winemaking very seriously.

Don%26#39;t forget about the wineries on the outskirts and east shore, though. If you like sweeter wines, Montezuma (North end) has a lot of interesting ones, they also specialize in fruit and honey wines. And King Ferry Winery on the East Shore is very good too. If you have time you should visit those. Driving around the lake is so nice! Have a safe and enjoyable trip!

Had the best veggie burger of my life at the Simply Red Bistro at Sheldrake Point back in May.

Hosmer Winery near Ovid is our favorite for slightly sweet wine. My husband likes dry and we managed to find one at Hosmer that we both liked and so did our entire family! We have it shipped in once in a while when we can%26#39;t get to Hosmer.

The wine tour is fun and the views are gorgeous. Pretty drive.
