One day stopover in NYC Dec 23rd - How to spend the day?

We (2 adults (50 ish), 2 teens, and one fit grandmother) are going on a S.Caribbean cruise just before Christmas and our flight home (using airline points) involves a one night stay (Dec 22nd) and a pretty full day (Dec 23rd) in NYC. W need to leave for the airport at 5pm.

I imagine Dec 23rd will be a pretty festive day to walk the streets of New York.

Seasoned NYC travellers or researchers, how would you spend the day?

I%26#39;d mosey up to Central Park. Stroll on up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Then find a good lunch at somewhere like Bistro 60. Not sure from your post where you are heading for on 12/23. Do you have a flight time?

I have a question - what time do you arrive on the 22nd, because if you need to get to the airport by 5 on the 23rd you will have to leave the city around 2PM, so you don%26#39;t really have a lot of time.

Where are you staying?

Hi,

We are staying at the Embassy Suites near Brooklyn Bridge. We arrive about 7pm on the 22nd.

Flight to Vancouver is at 8pm on the 23rd.

I am sorry, I misread your post about when you are leaving for the airport.

I would get up very early and take the free Staten Island Ferry ride past the Statue of Liberty, will take about 1 hour.

I would then walk to the entrance of the Brooklyn Bridge near City Hall, walkable from your hotel, walk halfway and come back.

Grab the subway at Brooklyn Bridge, right across from the bridge, and head to 42nd Street Grand Central and have a look around.

Walk west on 42nd Street, take a quick peek into the main NY Library at 42nd %26amp; 5th. Walk 1 block west to Bryant Park and have look at the Xmas fair. Walk 1 more block west to 7th Avenue/Broadway and you will be in TImes Square. Walk north to 50th Street, make a right (east) and head to ROckefeller Center, where you will see the tree, the ice skating rink, and I would visit Top of the Rock observation deck for a great view of the city, and the stores displays on 5th Avenue.

Depending on your timing, the rest is up to you when to head back to your hotel.

Have fun..

NYCGirl has a fantastic itinerary. I would definitely do that!

Wow, NYCgirl, thanks for the great itinerary. Just what we were looking for. We just need to find a nice spot for lunch and our day will be complete.
