Vacation Rental

Help! Can anyone tell me how to verify the existence of a property in new york city? I am inquiring on 80 bank street. Need quick response...

Vacation Rental

hello

It looks like it is a building of 24 units, around 6 floors? Jayco Reality . I would think it might be OK. I will not give 100% because I do not want to be responsible for someone getting burned. I would still get further details and do not wire money.

Vacation Rental

The problem is not JUST the existence of the property. The problem is whether the person who%26#39;s advertising to rent it actually owns/manages it and it%26#39;s legal. Share the website where you found it if you want more help.

Here is the website of ad: newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/sub/433999567.html

I sent many emails asking for more details this morning, so far no response. I even ask the owner (Alex Fitch) for some sort of identification of himself (security pass ID) etc, is that considered something wise?

I worry it could be a scam, he might be providing some pictures of some other properties. Are there any way to spot them?

I know i shouldn%26#39;t do wire transfer to the landlord but it requested for USD 400 deposit which is to offset the full amount for 6 days ($800).

I am in a dilemma now, i need accom with budgeted basic private facilities but even low-end hotels in new york are sky-high price now, so im turning to vacation rentals. While i cant trust the source of the property totally. If i cant get a (economic) decent accom by this weekend, i intend to cancel my trip. Any better advice?

Yes- find a hotel with a shared bathroom.

That ad looks as fake as all get out. Is it supposed to be for a room in a shared apartment? A studio? If it was an actual ad, it should specify that.

Also, six days at $125 a day would total $750, not $800.

This is his reply for my request and he sent me some pictures of his apartment:

'; The apartment you inquired about is located at 80 Bank Street, in the heart of the West Village. Since this is for 2 people I would charge you $800 for 6 nights which would include tax, utiltiies, high speed Internet, cable TV, unlimited local calls and linens/towels. I%26#39;ve attached a few pictures of the apartment. In order to make a reservation I would require a $400 deposit which would be offset against the rent. Feel free to ask me any questions you would like.

Regards,

Alex

';

Where can i check if the property belongs to a named owner or to get him verified of his property?

I guess he can%26#39;t do math.

How hard is it to multiply 6 x $125 = $750 ?

';Where can i check if the property belongs to a named owner or to get him verified of his property?';

You can%26#39;t. Start looking elsewhere.

One rule of thumb is NEVER wire transfer money. There is no way of tracing it once it%26#39;s sent. It sounds like your budget for a visit to Manhattan may not enough for a private bathroom. What is your budget and your travel dates? You have a few options aside from canceling the trip:

%26gt;consider staying outside Manhattan in a place where you can travel into Manhattan

%26gt;look for a hotel or b %26amp; b or hostel with a private bedroom but shared bathroom

%26gt;contact a reputable agency and possibly stay IN someone%26#39;s apt. (while they;re there) but you may be able to have your own bedroom and bathroom.

citylightsnewyork.com is such a co. and that would be considered a ';hosted'; apartment.

If you%26#39;re interested in information on the first 2 options, post back with budget and dates.
