Welcome to the forum!
In the FAQ ';sticky'; at the top of this forum are a few links on Winter Holidays - American style, including a thread on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year%26#39;s dining.
The best resource is www.opentable.com, but it may be too early to make rezzies.
Also, check out newyears.com and newyorkled.com as the time approaches.
NYC tends to be very ';last-minute'; in a lot of ways, so weird events, shows and festivals pop up in the listings in early Decembers.
Prices also suffer from the ';new year%26#39;s tax'; - similar to the ';valentine%26#39;s day tax'; and the ';mother%26#39;s day tax'; - i.e. everyone doubles or triples their prices.
Many neighborhood, unknown bars are the best places to celebrate New Year%26#39;s Eve because their cover charges won%26#39;t be too outrageous, and you%26#39;ll hang out with fun locals.
