Reviews of Orso??

I have pre theatre reservations for 7 people...I see such conflicting reviews! I would love some opinions from this forum...is the restaurant nice, how is the food and service?

I am in charge of our itinerary and I don%26#39;t want my friends to be disappointed.

If you have a suggestion for something better in a similiar price range I would greatly appreciate it!!

Reviews of Orso??

Give some thought to Carmines on W. 44th. Food is served family style and is less expensive than Orso. Also the setting is less formal. They take reservations for six or more. Read the reviews, most being favorable.

Reviews of Orso??

I haven%26#39;t been to Orso for a while but I%26#39;ll say it%26#39;s a much more upscale restaurant than Carmine%26#39;s and it%26#39;s more northern Italian whereas Carmine%26#39;s is southern Italian. I always like it there, but I find it pricey for what it is and they don%26#39;t offer any pre theater menu. What show are you seeing, how old is the group and does it have to be Italian?

It%26#39;s a favorite of mine, very comfy, nice menu and service. I%26#39;ve been going there for a zillion years. I recently brought a friend, and midway through he looked around and said the place was ugly! So there you go -- two opposing reviews!

We are a group of 7 women in our early 30s..

we have a show at the Minskoff on Friday and a show at 42nd St Theatre on Sat night....I am concerned more about a nice atmoshere and service rather than food presentation. We would like decent portions and mid priced to upper price range.

One night for Italian would be great and the other French or American perhaps?? What I have researched is Viceversa, Carmines, Langans, and Orso.

Thanks!!

Take a look at Esca, which is lovely Italian seafood. Also the bistros Le Madeleine and Marseille. And West Bank Cafe is good too.

ViceVersa is better value ($35 prix fixe) and a nicer looking place imo but it%26#39;s on 51 st, so not really as close to either of your theaters.

West Bank Cafe is good American, Marseille, Chez Josephine and Le Madeleine for French all on or near west 42 st. Chez Josephine has live music, but doesn%26#39;t start during pre theater.

Am I allowing enought time for dinner at 6 at Viceversa and then a walk to Minskoff Theatre for show at 8pm?

Thanks again

Figure it%26#39;ll take 10-15 minutes to walk from 51st %26amp; 8th to 45th %26amp; Broadway, and the streets are very crowded. Personally, I like to eat within a block or two of the theater. I also like to relax at dinner, so I generally go at 5:30. (But I%26#39;m a very slow eater!)
