We have our hotel and tranportation taken care of and I just started looking at restaurants.
Do most of the restaurants require reservations? Are there any that you can just walk into and get a table (we would be willing to wait up to 30 minutes or so as that is what we are used to at home)?
Restaurant reservations
there are 100s (1000s?) of places you can just walk in to. If you want one of the more popular spots mentioned over and over again here, you may want to book - especially if you like eating at 8-9pm. If you want a special Thursday-Saturday reservation at prime time, you should reserve.
If you dont feel like dealing with reservationists, you can always make and cancel reservations on opentable.com
Restaurant reservations
I%26#39;m with evening - unless we%26#39;re on a mission, theater or opera, we just usually show up at a restaurant.
As mentioned there are literally thousands of venues to choose from.
What we do is choose a couple of restaurants in an area and if one is not available just walk to the other.
I did recently use opentable.com for a rezzie, very user friendly.

Thanks. It just seemed like every restaurant review I was reading talked about making a rezzie. We don%26#39;t really want to be tied down as far as timing.
kjgouge - sounds like you already have an idea of what restaurants that interest you. Your initial query, turns out, was too general, which is why I, too, would have said that most of the thousands of places in NYC do NOT require rezzies.
What are some of your choices, for example? Then we can tell you whether similar places need rezzies, too.
We were looking at Heartland Brewery on 6th AVenue and Da Marino on W 49th St. for starters.
Basically, we like anything Japanese, Mexican or Italian.
If you%26#39;re looking at restaurants in Times Square, without reservations, you%26#39;re going to have a much longer wait than you will anywhere else in the city. Much longer than half an hour, I imagine.
If you want to stay in Times Square, make reservations. If you%26#39;re more flexible, your dining choices and schedule can be more flexible.
Which neighborhoods do you plan on seeing during your visit? That%26#39;s a good place to start for picking out restaurants.
just be courteous,if you do make reservation, then change mind, call %26amp; cancel! I%26#39;ll bet you won%26#39;t have any problem just walking into any Japanese/Mexican/Italian place..but if you have your heart set on a place, make the reservation. opentable.com is good..you use it frequently and ultimately get a coupon for something(I%26#39;ve never gotten coupon-just use it for convenience-there are some restaurants we like to make sure we%26#39;ll get into when we visit,so we make reservations using opentable to be sure)
