Opentable.com

My partner and I will be visiting NYC soon and are looking to book a few things before we go. I can see that many recommend Opentable.com/ menupages.com to research restaurants, but would you recommend booking through these sites?

Also, once you have booked are you expected to call to confirm the table on the day?

Your advice would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Opentable.com

I use opentable.com all the time. It makes no difference whether you use opentable or phone directly to the restaurant either, both you and the restaurant are looking at the same time slots.

Many places ask that you reconfirm the day before, but I%26#39;ve never had a problem when I book through opentable, and I%26#39;ve never reconfirmed when I use them.

Opentable.com

I%26#39;ve had good success with opentable.com, too.

I%26#39;ve had people tell me they%26#39;ve gotten better tables using opentable than when just phoning. If the rest. asks you to confirm, then you should. ;)

FYI - I%26#39;ve made a reservation on opentable.com less than 15 minutes prior to the dining time and they had the reservation when I walked in the door.

Why, do you ask, would I make a reservation 15 minutes out from the time? Because opentable.com gives you 100 points every time you reserve. At 2000 points, you a $20 certificate. So, I%26#39;ll make reservations for lunch on Sunday at a bar if they%26#39;ll take it.

I like OpenTable a lot. There aren%26#39;t that many restaurants in my state on it yet, but I like to use it when I travel. I use it whenever I can---my understanding is if you have no activity within a 12 month period you lose your accumulated points....

I would use it even if there was no reward program---for the convenience.

It seems that most NYC restaurants don%26#39;t require a call to confirm 2 days ahead but places like Jean Georges and Le Bernardin do.

I%26#39;ve never reconfirmed a reservation at a restaurant.

If the restaurant is %26#39;nervous%26#39; they%26#39;ll call you (as happens many times) to reconfirm.

As for Opentable, I have 3100 points! Most are 100 pointers, but 1 was a 1000 points! %26lt;so happy%26gt;.

I cross reference Opentable with www.zagat.con and Chowhound.
