Italian Food in New York

Hello, everyone!

Have previously had wonderful food at Grotte Azzura on Mulberry, but have seen several posts suggesting there%26#39;s better reasonably-priced Italian food than in Little Italy.

I%26#39;m looking for a traditonal Rat Pack-ish, wiseguy-ish, red-and-white tablecloth Italian restaurant in Manhattan.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

You can also check out the FAQ ';sticky'; at the top of this forum and read this:

DINING DEBATES: BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANT: Best Italian Restaurant. Must we go to Little Italy?'; Most natives and locals agree - Little Italy ain鈥檛 what it used to be. It%26#39;s small and touristy, with only a few worthwhile hold-outs in the increasingly Asian neighborhood. But you can still find traditional ';red sauce'; checkered-tablecloth Italian restaurants all over NYC, just like Mama%26#39;s!

For a tourist, is it worth the effort to go to Little Italy in the Bronx? How long would it take to get there from midtown via subway an would it be recommended?

I%26#39;m not recommending the food, but this was Frank Sinatra%26#39;s favorite place in NYC (or so they say), so it has the Rat Pack, wise guy element:
