the bronx,how safe is it for tourists

hi all,

i hate to ask this question but after mentioning to some friends that i was planning to visit the bronx in ny in nov,they looked at me like i had ten heads and gave me the saftey lecture.

im adamant im goin to visit, so any advice anyone could give me places to go ther etc,would be gratefully welcome.

oh n is it as dangerous as people make out..

in my eyes everywer has its gud n bad people n areas..and im quite savy myself so i dont get easily scared lol

Uh, hi: like over a million other functioning, breathing human beings- I live in the Bronx. We can read and use the internet, and don%26#39;t generally appreciate ridiculous sterotypes.

What exactly are you looking to see there?

I don%26#39;t think you realize that The Bronx has a few million people in it, and covers quite a bit of acreage, putting it mildly.

It is officially known as ';the borough of parks and universities';, and you can%26#39;t enjoy The Yankess, the Bronx Zoo, The NY Botanical Gardens, Arthur Avenue, and some of our premier hospitals and universities without stepping foot within its borders.

Are there certain poor, downtrodden or industrial areas with crime rates higher than average of the rest of the city? Yes, as in every major city in the world.

Will you be sucked into a vortex of danger and violence against your will simply by visiting The Bronx? No.

What do you want to see?

Do you want to go to the zoo? Arthur ave ( italian section) Yankee game ??There are good and bad places no matter where you go. I live in a nice quiet area you go 10 minutes away it is not so desirable but safe, and I live upstate new york now. Queens, Bronx , Brooklyn etc are all the same.

just want to vist sum nice restraunts,parks, maybe the zoo etc also sum good bars.

It is OK. I did understand what you were saying. It is a large area, so knowing where you wanted to go would help.

Here%26#39;s some advice to avoid hurt feelings. Search on safe and Bronx. I think you%26#39;ll find that in general it%26#39;s safe and many will take offense that you expect it isn%26#39;t - just like you would because Bono or whoever said he grew up in a rough part of Dublin and everyone expects that Dublin is not safe as a result.
