Have any visitors to New York ever experienced trip report “withdrawal” after completing their travelogues? I think that’s what I’m experiencing right now. I go to my computer and I feel as if I should be writing another trip report, and then I realize that I’ve finally finished them all and I have nothing left to chronicle about my first visit to New York. You would think that would leave me feeling fulfilled and content but instead I feel vaguely dissatisfied.
What to do? Is there a support group I can join? A twelve-step program perhaps? Or should I follow Bettina_NYC’s advice and make stuff up? LOL!
Hmmm. Yes, that’s it; that’s the ticket. I’ll write a fake trip report. After all, TripAdvisor allows fake hotel reviews so surely there wouldn’t be any objections to posting a fake trip report or two, would there? I’ll put my mind to it. I suppose if it’s going to be a “fake” trip report it will have to include at least one story about “fake” handbags. And of course there’ll have to be a reference to the Hotel Carter or the New York Inn. Perhaps a meal or two at a chain restaurant. Maybe a chance encounter on 5th Avenue with the son of Sidney Poitier? A fantasy Broadway evening with Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Nathan Lane? Or maybe just Nathan Lane. The possibilities are endless. :-)
Now, this won’t get me into any trouble with “Jane”, will it? I won’t end up being banished to TripAdvisor purgatory for posting a facetious, tongue-in-cheek travelogue, will I? I mean, even a fake trip report, if done well, can, in its own unique way, be educational and informative.
Anyway, we’ll see what my imagination can devise. Stay tuned. Sometime in the not distant future, sometime when you least expect it, a post will suddenly appear which, although it will ostensibly seem to be from me, will, in fact, detail the amazing New York weekend adventures of someone else, some avatar figure as yet unnamed.
Meanwhile, when I actually do return to New York, as I surely will, where should I stay? :-) [A perfectly legitimate, travel-related question that is not in any way tongue-in-cheek. Indeed, how could you think such a thing?!] I have heard good things about the Marriot. I have also heard many good things about The Pod Hotel and I understand that it offers decent accommodation for those on a tight budget. But I hear that the Plaza Athenee has air conditioning issues. :-)
Help! Experiencing trip report withdrawal
We%26#39;ve been going through TR withdrawal since you ended your report. I%26#39;d love to read more, real or bogus.
Yeah, try the Marriott.
Help! Experiencing trip report withdrawal
Yeah, just make one up.
I%26#39;d love to hear about your experiences that weekend you went and dined at TGI Fridays and picked up a %26#39;genuine%26#39; LV bag on Canal St.
Gotta love that Marriott.
Johannes ..... I agree too ..... lord knows I%26#39;m always making stuff up on forum. So go ahead ..... make some stuff up ..... don%26#39;t be bashful ..... it%26#39;s fun! For example, let%26#39;s just see if we can make a nice song up together ..... hey ..... you know what ..... I have had that Feist (isn%26#39;t she from Canada) song going through my head all day after seeing it on one of those Ipod commercials. Let%26#39;s see if we can change the lyrics around asd a tribute to Jane ..... go ahead ..... don%26#39;t be afraid ..... it%26#39;ll be lots of fun. Okay here goes nothing;
One ..... two ..... three ..... four
Jane really knows the score
Five ..... six ..... seven ..... eight
If she don%26#39;t score she ________
Hmmmm ..... I don%26#39;t know ..... I%26#39;m kind of drawing a blank here ..... can anyone think of a word that rhymes with ';EIGHT'; ? Let%26#39;s all just put our heads together ..... why not ..... it%26#39;ll be fun. How about ..... LATE ..... so then it%26#39;s ';If she don%26#39;t score she%26#39;s LATE'; ..... but that don%26#39;t make any sense. It sounds silly ..... hehehe. So let%26#39;s just give it another try then ..... don%26#39;t be afraid ..... it%26#39;ll be fun ..... honest. How about we use ..... HATES ..... ';If she don%26#39;t score she hates'; ..... but I don%26#39;t know bout that one either ..... Jane is more of a lover than a hater. So that%26#39;s no good too. But what do you say we give it one more try ..... okay ..... go ahead ..... don%26#39;t be a scardy cat ..... now what rhymes with EIGHT ..... thinking ..... thinking ..... thinking ..... I think I got it ..... how about MASTI ------ ..... wait a minute ..... let me just go get my dictionary cause this is a tricky word to spell ..... oh ..... there it is right here ..... MASTICATE ..... there I got it. ';If she don%26#39;t score she masticates'; ..... you know ..... she CHEWS ! But I don%26#39;t know ..... the word ';chews'; sounds an awful lot like another word that would be better left for another song ..... besides we wouldn%26#39;t want Mr. Larry Flint to get mad at us for title infringement and some narrow minded person might have a field day with all the double entendres for Chews ..... so better not use Chews then. But then what word can we use ...... one that rhymes and makes a lot of sense ..... wait I got it ..... why didn%26#39;t I think of this before ..... SKATE ..... then it%26#39;s ..... ';If she don%26#39;t score she likes to SKATE.'; Wow ..... I think we got it ..... but all this song writing is harder than I thought ..... sorry not tonight ..... I have a headache ..... but HORRAY ..... we did it ..... we really did it ..... perfect !
So let%26#39;s all sing along now ..... you know ..... together .....
One ..... two ..... three ..... four
Jane really knows the score
Five ..... six ..... seven ..... eight
If she don%26#39;t score she likes to skate.
Oh ..... you%26#39;re changing your heart
Oh ..... you know who you are.
Sure ..... I hear lots of good things about the Marriott !!
Johannes, you could always go the next step and gather your real trip reports together and publish them (with pictures of course) on your own website. This is what we did and, whenever I%26#39;m feeling low I just take a look at the site and it all comes flooding back. Of course, in your case, you might want to check that your web hoster allows you enough capacity ;-)
LP, don%26#39;t give up the day job. Besides, if we%26#39;re talking about Jane, surely the right verb to use is ';fulminate';?
(Fulminate: To issue or utter verbal attacks or censures authoritatively or menacingly.)
“LP, don%26#39;t give up the day job.” LOL! Do the regular contributors to this forum have day jobs?! I just assumed they were either retired or independently wealthy. :-) Seriously, where do they find the time to compose thousands upon thousands of forum messages each month? [Maybe they just type faster than me!]
Feist? Believe it or not I’ve never heard of Feist and yet, after a quick Google search, I see that she is indeed a Canadian singer/songwriter, born in Amherst, Nova Scotia in 1976. I’m just not keeping up with popular music the way I used to back in the 70s and 80s. The things you learn on this forum.
By the way, thanks everyone for the advice re. hotel choices. The Marriot sounds very nice; I will have to check it out. :-)
Meanwhile, my evil twin is planning a trip to New York in the not too distant future. He’s somewhat shy so I’ve promised to post his trip report for him. Given that he’s an evil twin I won’t be able to vouch for the accuracy of everything he says but I’m sure he’ll have some useful, educational stories to relate about his first ever trip to the Big Apple. I just hope that he doesn’t fulminate too much in his trip report, but I can always exercise some editorial discretion.
