I would like to visit GROUND ZERO. Is there a memorial there yet?
Ground zero
I don%26#39;t know if one is built, but from my perspective the depth of memorial is in your mind and heart. I have visited several times and am still overcome with the courage that people took to save other people.
Ground zero
The WTC is just a construction site at this point but if you go to St. Paul%26#39;s Chapel just a few minutes north of there, you can experience the emotional impact because this is where the rescue works were for months and also where there are many personal memorials. St. Paul%26#39;s, in itself, is worth a visit, since it is one of the oldest churches in the city and has George Washington%26#39;s original pew, etc.
also, around the corner, on Liberty Street is a building with pictures and other information about the September 11th tragedy. The people at the information booth will direct you there if you ask. This closed at 5:00 on the Sunday we were there.
The WTC site is an incredibly sad and poignant place and even though it is a construction site it is also a place that still (will always?) requires some mental preparation for me to face.
Thanks. 9/11 changed my life. I am visiting NY for the first time and would like to experience the site first hand.
St. Paul%26#39;s Chapel is a lovely place to visit after you leave the site. There are plenty of people around, but the atmosphere in the church is different than that at the site.
Make sure you go around the corner from the fire station on Liberty Street to see the firefighter memorial. I got very emotional looking at the scenes of 9/11 depicted there. And, as suggested above, be sure to go to St. Paul%26#39;s.
We spent several hours at Ground Zero this week.
The site itself is under construction, with fences all around, but you can peek through the fences in places and get a feel for how huge the devastation is.
Beside the fire hall on Liberty St. just across the road from Groun Zero, there is a memorial museum. It has an incredible display of pictures, stories, recovered articles etc. Very well done and very emotional.
Then St. Paul%26#39;s church has a wonderful memorial including information about all the work the wonderful volunteeers did in the days following September 11.
This was definitely worth the trip and a highlight of our trip.
I%26#39;m going to NYC this Thursday %26amp; plan to spend some time at Ground Zero %26amp; St. Pauls Chapel. I thought I saw something about an exhibit of artifacts from 9/11. Can anyone confirm this for me? Also, are tourists allowed inside the World Financial Center to look at Ground Zero from above street level?
I would highly reco getting one of the great free maps about the area. You can order them for free from these websites, or pick them up at the kiosk next to the PATH train station at Church STreet, bwn Vesey Street and Liberty Street.

I%26#39;d also reco resting your feet at Zacotti Park (I%26#39;m not sure how it is spelled.) It is a plaza with benches and trees at Liberty Street, bwn Church Street and B%26#39;way. Don%26#39;t forget to look at the statue called ';Double Check.';
Cheers-great link. It says it all.
