When we leave Manhatten, we have an early flight (7-50am) out of JFK., so I guess we will need to leave our hotel ...er...early. I%26#39;m not sure what time that would need to be. Would we be ok to flag down a yellow taxi at that time of the morning or are we best arranging a limo/private taxi ?
thanks.
early taxi, Manhatten to JFKYour leaving out some valuable info: Where is your hotel? If it%26#39;s on a main street in a busy part of the city, there are apt to be taxis roaming in the early morning hours. If it%26#39;s on a side street, you%26#39;d be better off arranging for a car service.
early taxi, Manhatten to JFKI%26#39;d do a car service in advance. If you tell them your flight details they will usually let you know what time you should be ready for pick up. My experience is that car services are about the same price as taxis. Have fun!
you%26#39;re right, sorry. We%26#39;re staying at the Hampton Inn, Times Square - 51st and 8th.
I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll have a problem getting a taxi, but since it costs no more to order a car service and not have the worry, I think that%26#39;s what I%26#39;d do.

Ask your airline how early they want you there and figure it will take less than an hour (it could be as little as 30 mins. at the hour you%26#39;ll be leaving ;)
car service it is.
Thanks for the replies.
We just go back yesterday and had the same flight time as you. We hailed a cab at 5.30am and it took exactly 1 hour to get to the airport, check in and get through security. We were on the UWS.
We have done this three times in the last year and it has taken about an hour each time. All have been to JFK but from three different locations in Manhattan. Once with a car service and twice by taxi.
Hope this helps.
I took a car service to JFK. We also had an early flight. Car service was arranged with Carmel, I was surprised to see a minivan when the driver arrived! He called to let us know he was there, which was also very good. Due to where we were staying it was much more convenient than lugging out suitcases down to the main street and hailing a taxi.
I was surprised to see one poster left only slightly over an hour to check in and get through airport security. Obviously it can be done, but how much earlier is your airline advising. Shorter times are great when they work, but if you take the chance and it doesn%26#39;t work you may find your plane taking off without you.
I need to speak to the airline (BA) regarding how long we need to be there before the flight. I know we can book seats online the day before, which should help as it means we will only need to drop off our bags....I%26#39;m presuming I will be able to find an internet cafe easily near the Times Square area ?
Thanks again for the replies. I don%26#39;t know what I would do without this forum !
Our airline has a 90 min recommended policy. We arrived with almost two hours to spare.
