What do you think?

Top Most Overrated Dishes in NYC....

Well, you know how I feel about the Carnegie%26#39;s pastrami! And I really like Sylvia%26#39;s too. Her mashed potatoes are disappointing, and desserts aren%26#39;t worth the calories, but her fried chicken and ribs are excellent.

I think Syliva gets a good run for her money these days, since there are more soul food and southern places in town, but her oxtails were AMAZING and still memorable!

Same with Mamoun%26#39;s (competition from Chickpea, Moustache, Bread and Olive, and dozens of Brooklyn and Queens places), but they are still the best bargain on St. Mark%26#39;s place!

I%26#39;ll agree with all of that, minus Dinosaur BBQ. I%26#39;d also add Grimaldi%26#39;s pizza and specify the black cod entree at Nobu.

NYCgirl..

It looks like you meant to say overrated places...lol..

I agree with most of what you wrote...to be dish specific I would say that I would love to see LESS fried calimari...( the only good place is Rocco%26#39;s off of FT Hamilton Prkwy, brklyn) as well as penne al la vodka...any true Italian will tell you vodka sauce is a made up sauce totally american!

Well what do I know?!

Out of a few pastramis I%26#39;d pick the Carnegie (so far).

Corner Bistro - I%26#39;ll be comparing it to Burger Joint so will let you know in November.

Lombardi%26#39;s was my fave out of Angelo%26#39;s, Grimaldi%26#39;s and John%26#39;s (44th St)

I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;ve even heard of Dinosaur BBQ but it might be nice to compare it to Virgil%26#39;s. (Like I need any more places to eat)

Putting my limited knowledge of the culinary offerings in NYC aside, let me remove my beloved Magnolia cupcakes from the #1 spot and trade if for the pizzas from Grimaldi%26#39;s......it HAS to be the most overrated pizza in NYC!!

I hate Pinkberry; there is litigation pending because what they serve isn%26#39;t actually frozen ';yogurt';; they have yet to disclose what it really is, and have since stopped using the word yogurt.

Nonetheless, every would be hipster and aspiring starlet line up like lemmings because it was mentioned on Perez Hilton, and because it%26#39;s on The Hills. They must have a good publicist.

I couldn%26#39;t agree more - I%26#39;m in total agreement with Jim Leff, co-founder of Chowhound. ';Groupthink'; is way too alive and well in food recommendations in NYC.

';There is no force out there updating these tired, long-outdated opinions. Lazy food writers and eager publicists harp on the same names, which eventually reach critical mass among foodies. These arbitrary, static judgments remain forever, like fossils,” Leff says.

I would also venture to say that this Board should be wary of ';Groupthink'; also in some of the ancient, repetitive recommendations for food and lodging.

.

What%26#39;s up, River Cafe and Carmine%26#39;s?

BTW - for those of you wondering what we%26#39;re talking avbout - here%26#39;s the NY Post article of today that started all of this...
