Stuff to see (by car) between Ithica & New York City?

We%26#39;re going to drive from Adirondacks to Ithica area to see Finger Lakes. Then we need to get to New York City. Which route is best to take for nice drive, sightseeing, maybe a couple hour stop along the way? This comes at the end of a NYC, Boston, Bennington Vt,, Adirondacks Natl. Park drive and back to NYC.

Thought about going south to towns in PA, but hear that%26#39;s not the best use of our time/miles.

Seneca and Cayuga are the best use of your FingerLakes time. Both lakes will keep you very busy with wineries and scenic vistas.

Heading towardbetween FLX and NYC two places come to mind.

Skaneatles- upscale village, try Doug%26#39;s Fish Fry for a very unique culinary stop. Rt 20

Cooperstown- Obviously the Baseball Hall of Fame and a great little village area. Brewery Ommegang is a great stop if you have appreciation for craft Belgian style beers, interesting short brewery tour and tastings available.

Others may be able to suggest a few Hudson Valley area stops..

Thanks for your response. Isn%26#39;t Cayuga Lake the biggest one? The one with Ithica at its southern base? We just heard that the Finger Lakes area is particularly beautiful. If we%26#39;re not into the wineries or breweries, would seeing the Finger Lakes area still be a cool drive?

We were going to start around Bennington VT %26amp; take the ferry over to the ADK National Park, drive south towards the Finger Lakes. But now I think we%26#39;re heading towards Chester, Vt %26amp; then figuring out how to get over to the ADK%26#39;s from there. The question is...where to drive after the Finger Lakes if we need to get to New York City.

I would have many suggestions for this drive because I have travelled this area extensively. How many days are you spending from Bennington through Finger Lakes and onward to NYC.? This would guide my thoughts....

Hey Buffalonian- well, everything has changed in the few days since I wrote. Now it seems they will be driving from Boston to the Chester, VT area (instead of Bennington, which the VT people tell me isn%26#39;t as nice as Chester area) %26amp; then heading into the Adirondacks Park. From there, they%26#39;ll head south towards PA, drive through some Amish country.

It%26#39;s at this point where I don%26#39;t know how to send them back to NYC.

I once drove I-81 south from Syracuse NY into Pennsylvania and it was really beautiful. Not sure if this is on your route, but it should be!
