Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Opinions please.

I have been looking at this restaurant and I like the look of the menu.It has also been recommended to me by an American and a German.

I have booked it for the Saturday night of our trip.

I guess I am just looking for opinions on it. Is the food nice? Is it expensive? Is it worth it?

Thanks again,

BT xx

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Opinions please.

This is one of the dreaded %26#39;chain%26#39; restaurants spoken so lowly of here on the Forum. There are much better steak houses in NYC and vicinity - Peter Luger%26#39;s for one.

Yes, it is expensive, all the items are ala carte - when you order a steak, you get a steak, potato (around 8 to 10 dollars) and veggies, in the same price range are extra.

I would plug in steakhouses into the search function of this forum and see what comes up.

You can do better than a chain establishment.

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Opinions please.

Below is the review on menupages, it%26#39;s not cheap. Ruth%26#39;s Chris is a chain here in the US, so a lot of people would recommend eating at a ';local'; New York place that isn%26#39;t a chain. I do know people, who don%26#39;t live in New York, who love the place. Peter Lugar%26#39;s is very popular as a steak place here, well known old place. I don%26#39;t really eat steak, so I can%26#39;t comment on what is best. I think you%26#39;ll have a good meal at Ruth%26#39;s Chris, but there may be better options in New York.

I loathe it. You pay over $30 (that%26#39;s in Atlanta, so it%26#39;s probably more in NY) for a steak that%26#39;s stuck under a broiler with butter slapped on top. I cannot understand what the appeal is having been there myself.

I%26#39;m agree with Poppa. If you are going to spend that kind of money, go somewhere local and good.

Don%26#39;t go is all I can say. We have Ruth%26#39;s Chris in Toronto, Canada and it%26#39;s one of the last places I would think of going. We are off to NY in December and are looking forward to the unique, one of a kind NY restaurants - just as I looked for when in Ireland!

I went to Ruth%26#39;s Chris and Spark%26#39;s steakhouse in October 2006. They were both expensive, but I enjoyed Spark%26#39;s more. I tried to go to Smith and Wollensky , but it was late in the evening and could only get into the Wollensky Grill (not the main dining room). It was noisy, but the food was great. For me, the experience of Sparks was worth it.

Not sure, but isnt%26#39; Gallaghers one of the oldest, true steakhouses in New York?

Being somewhat of a %26#39;steak expert%26#39; myself, (have dined at most of the top ones in the US and I also managed an upscale, chain outlet in Florida for a few years) I do have to say, Ruth%26#39;s Chris is in the top 5 according to my standards.

I do have to disregard the NYers aversion to chains in this case......although there are a few chains which deserve the bad reputations they have, Ruth%26#39;s Chris is not one that does deserve any sort of bad rap.

This %26#39;chain steakhouse%26#39; does shine through and would give the privately owned restaurants in the city a good run for their money.

I have been to several of their locations across the country, including the original one in New Orleans. Their steaks, while on the expensive end (but isn%26#39;t EVERYTHING more expensive in NYC?) are of top quality and their service standards are top notch as well. What you pay at RC%26#39;s is what you would any other top steakhouses in NYC.

Someone mentioned Smith and Wollensky above and while I haven%26#39;t yet had the opportunity to visit the NYC outlet, I have dined at the MIami Beach location and it was outstanding. This place is one I would recommend as well.

I say, other than Peter Lugers, Ruth%26#39;s is one heck of a steakhouse and one that I definately would recommend.
