I would like to take my parents(72 years)on a weekend trip.Looking for a quaint town with a hotel. The don%26#39;t do a great deal of long walking,so it would be ideal if rest. shopping, art gallerys in walking distance.I am willing to drive up to 3 hours outside of NYC. Any ideas?

Cold Spring is a popular weekend stop from NYC as is Rhinebeck. Beacon NY is another idea with Dia Beacon gallery.
Have you considered the Hamptons or the North Fork? Depending on where you live on LI, that might be a big change for them. If you%26#39;re going in fall/winter, rates in both are substantially less.
You could also consider using one of the ferries (from Port Jeff or Orient Point) and head to Ct. New Haven is not that far from the New London stop of the Orient Pt. ferry. Brandford is also a pretty town on the shore in Ct.
If they don%26#39;t know the Jersey shore, Spring Lake is very pretty with Victorian style inns, a boardwalk, very nice.

New Hope Pennsylvania should be an hour and 45 minutes
from the Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, or Verazano Bridge.
Check out New Hope on TA and see if there are places to stay,
things to do, and places to eat that your parents would like.
Mohonk Mountain House is gorgeous...I took my parents there for a long weekend last September for their 50th anniver. They loved it, it isn%26#39;t cheap, but it was great for them...they enjoyed the whole ';Grand Hotel'; experience.
I would try pine grove dude ranch, I think this place is excellent for family . www.pinegrove-ranch.com
The fernwood resort in the pocono mountains is nice. There is a local flea market close by and cute little shops.
hi tmoo! you really like pine grove! i don%26#39;t think there%26#39;s a quaint town with galleries and restaurants nearby is there? i could be very wrong...I just remember the area and the dude ranch as being rather ';rustic'; (even though great for us with all the kids running around).
