new york at christmas

just wanting to know how bad christmas is in new york for crowds? the reason i ask we are wondering if we should break our visit up there into two 3 days at the start and then the last 3 days including christmas just because i have heard lines for such things as the empire state etc can be hours long. what time of year does all this kind of madness start in december? whats christmas day like in manhatten?

It%26#39;s very very crowded the entire month of December until after the new year.

The Christmas season in NYC is traditionally very well populated! As for lines at attractions, probably long as you predict - but it%26#39;s a day to day thing, some days may be longer than others, not really an exact science.

Christmas day in Manhattan, a lot of tourists looking for a restaurant serving a %26#39;traditional%26#39; holiday meal!

Really, another tough call, weather could make a difference, not a real busy day, only was in the City once on Christmas day, light traffic.

Something you have to expect coming to a popular destination during the holidays.

There doesn%26#39;t seem to be a consistent way to guess the queues. We found that the ESB had a massive line but we walked straight in to TOTR.

To be honest - the lines were not annoying - everyone seemed to be in good spirits. Having been to Disneyland on a clear summer day no line seems too long. ;-)
