Cheesecake factory???

I have been to the cheesecake factory in Orlando and just checked out there website to see where there was one in Manhattan but I didn%26#39;t see one listed! Please tell me they%26#39;re wrong because I would love their Teryaki chicken and Toblerone cheesecake for dessert!

If there%26#39;s not its hardly likely I%26#39;ll go hungry anyway becasue after reading all of the posts about restaurants there are plenty of good ones to choose from but I have to ask!!!

Cheesecake factory???

You are coming to New York, please don%26#39;t go to chain restaurants. There are so many restaurants here that will put a place like Cheesecake Factory to shame. And, no, there isn%26#39;t one here...thankfully. Olive Garden, Applebees, TGI Fridays, we have those and they are crowded with, I assume, tourists.

Cheesecake factory???

Orchid - the CF is a ';chain'; establishment very regularly eschewed by Forum regulars giving advice.

Check out the thread re: Ruth%26#39;s Chris Steakhouse!

If it%26#39;s teriyaki chicken you fancy - I%26#39;m sure there are plenty of local places that could satisfy your appetite.

And you definitely will not go hungry - over 20,000 places to eat in NYC.

So, I%26#39;m sure I won%26#39;t be the first to dissuade you from patronizing a chain restaurant.

Poppa

Enter ';chesecake factory'; in the search box, and you%26#39;ll see previous threads on this exact same topic - and you%26#39;ll see what we locals think about our home grown cheesecake!

There%26#39;s also an extensive thread about cheesecake in the FAQ ';sticky'; at the top of this forum.

I know its true but when 4 youngish girls have trekked around a city all day, those red and white stripes of TGI%26#39;s do become very appealing!!!

I will do my best to sample the %26#39;real%26#39; restaraunts you guys have to offer!

Thanks!

On the subject of Cheesecake Factory; the ';CheeseSTEAK Factory'; on Queens Blvd (mentioned in the last Cheescake Factory thread); has apparently done well enough for one to open in Manhattan (6th ave b/n 14th and 15th). I noticed it in passing the other day.

';...those red and white stripes of TGI%26#39;s do become very appealing!!!';

I know that is your opinion and your tastes and all, but sorry, I can%26#39;t relate. Give me a greasy spoon diner or mom-and-pop steam table shack anytime over an Applebee%26#39;s.

This will become apparent once you get here.

If you do ';succumb';, keep in mind that prices of chain restaurants are HIGHER in NYC than other American cities (our rent, insurance and labor costs are higher.) And, many visitors have reported that the quality may be good, but not any better - and possibly worse - than other branches in other cities.

And doesn%26#39;t it defeat the whole point of travelling to look for something in one city in the hope that it is identical to something in an entirely different town?

I defense of questions like this one: A lot of people like something familiar when travelling - since everything else can be so %26#39;alien%26#39;. And what%26#39;s more familar than food?

A guy I used to work with went to Rome on business. He didn%26#39;t like the local pizza - it wasn%26#39;t ';real pizza,'; and he made the other guys he was with go to a McD%26#39;s with him at least once because he ';didn%26#39;t like the food - too strange.'; Go figure.

As for the Cheesecake Factory - their cheesecake is better than no cheesecake at all. But if you can get the real thing, why bother. And the food is typical chain stuff - high fat/calorie fare. But I%26#39;ll give them their due - it does have more flavor than most chains and some of their salads are pretty tasty.

:)

But over all, I think I would go local before eating chain every time.

Well to answer the question the closest cheesecake factory would be in Hackensack New jersey. I would not go out of my way unless you were in the area. Plenty of cheesecake in manhattan.

if you like cheesecake.Check out juniors in the theatre districy.similar to a fridays but it has ny roots and very good cheese cake.Agree with all the above posts,we have great ethnic and wonderful restaurants that are unique to NyC.Although for some people food is not important.
