American airlines jfk to lhr seat assignment

Well i finally booked a flight and hotel. So we%26#39;re going, yey!!

I got american airlines manchester to jfk, via heathrow, but very good connection times, and at the right price. 拢505 for the two of us in Nov.

One thing that%26#39;s really concerning me, and i%26#39;d like anyone%26#39;s 2 pence worth on this, is that there are no decent seats available to reserve on our flight.

I%26#39;d obviously like 2 seats together on they%26#39;re own by the window, fine plenty on the 777 that we are gonna fly on, but they%26#39;re all taken. So i%26#39;ve had to ';reserve'; two centre seats together (D and E, i think), just because i%26#39;m scared we won%26#39;t get to sit together. This is less than ideal, this is me and the girlfriend%26#39;s 1st long haul flight, and i want it to be perfect. Even more so on the way back, it%26#39;s a night flight and i don%26#39;t want to sleep next to anyone else.

Customer services are useless, however the internet say that some seats are held back for check in on the day, is this true? Do you think there%26#39;s any chance of an upgrade? Or am i just being a fool, for all i know, the centre seat on an aa 777 might be huge???

Any help appreciated.

Dan.

Dan, not sure if you%26#39;ve tried this or not but you can find available seats on your flight by checking here: aa.com/apps/鈥?/a> and then use Seat Guru http://www.seatguru.com/ to see what they think of the seats you choose.

The exit row seats aren%26#39;t allocated till check in I believe, and then certain criteria have to be met as regards fitness. I would do exactly as you have done, reserve your seats and then ask at check in if they have any others available that you could have.

Check seatguru.com. They show two diff. versions of a 777 but in all coach class rows, the seats are

AB CDEFG HJ (no ';I';)

most airlines hold some seats for airline checkin. the best I can suggest is find out what time they start checkin for your flight and make sure you are there at that time (even though you will end up with way too much time in the airport most likely)

Seat guru will also tell you any limitations to seating: for instance, UNDERSEAT storage for rows A,D, F, J is limited due to the entertainment system.

The MAIN Diff in the two planes seems to be the first class and business class seat configurations but AA is allegedly phasing out Version 2 of the 777.

Both planes%26#39; coach seats have a seat pitch of 32'; and a seat WIDTH of 18-18.5';

I hope this is helpful to you.

Thankyou for your kind help, everyone.

Well i couldn%26#39;t wait (no patience) so i phoned customer services again. Got though to someone most helpful this time.

The airport insist that some seats are held back, and they are indeed mostly the bulkhead-e/e seats. However 8 pairs of windows are currently held too. That%26#39;s good, gives me a great chance to be first to check in at jfk, and that really is the main thing as i plan on sleeping on the way home.

However LHR is a different story, we%26#39;re coming off a connection from MAN, so we%26#39;ll have to take our chances.

Much happier now though.

Thanks again.

We had a similar problem when we booked with BA via Expedia, two families booked, my confirmation for 4 came with seat numbers, my sisters for 3 said assigned on check in. I was worried that they would be seated away from each other and tried BA and Expedia, neither of whom could help.

Anyway, there was no problem in getting them seats together at check in, we just had to be very early.

What may help you for your outward flight is that we also went MAN to JFK via LHR, and at check in at Manchester the seats for the next leg were also given to us, so in effect this was earlier than those who were starting their jouney in London where check in hadn%26#39;t opened.

The next year we were allocated seats by Aer Lingus, two at the window side and two of the three centre seats, and both times the third aisle seat wasn%26#39;t in use and my daughter stretched out to sleep.

Hope this offers some reassurance that all is not yet set in stone.

Have a good trip

Pat

Hi, we had a similar situation with our flights to JFK with BA. We booked our seats at quite late notice. This was when you could actually reserve seats online with BA without having to do the web check in. We could choose window seats going out, but all the window seats coming back were taken. We thought, damn we are going to have to sit in the middle section. We arrived early at JFK for the return, asked if there was any chance of a window seat, and the agent said %26#39;That%26#39;s not a problem sir%26#39;. I wouldn%26#39;t worry too much, the most important thing for now is that you are actually sitting together. Just get to the airport nice and early.

We will also be flying American Airlines, from Stansted though next March. Let us know what you think of AA as this will be the first time flying them. The only thing we were concerned with is that they are flying from STN without us having to drive to LHR.

I flew AA last week - seats are in my opinion a good size - neither me nor my partner are small (and I%26#39;m 5 months pregnant). It%26#39;s the 3rd time I%26#39;ve flown with them and have only once managed to get a bulkhead seat and that was when the plane wasn%26#39;t full.....I was 3.5 hours early for our flight from LHR this time and still couldn%26#39;t get bulkhead despite putting on my best %26#39;I%26#39;m pregnant please give me more room%26#39; face ;)

JFK was a pain but maybe more helpful for you. We had to use self check in but this does give you the option to choose what seat you want (even if you have already pre-booked you can change) but you cannot select bulkhead (I dont know how this is done in these circumstances but we had no option other than to self check in)
