Hi! My sister and her fiance have always wanted to visit NY and as they don%26#39;t have the funds for a big white wedding here in the UK, they thought that they might as well get married in NY while they visit. They have also invited my husband and I along as witnesses, so there will be the four of us.
I just wondered if anyone had any ideas on venues for the marriage ceremony. I know that there are companies that will arrange this for you (for a big fee!) but perhaps there is a way to skip the middle man?? I get the feeling that my sis would love to be married in a little church somewhere, but she%26#39;d be equally happy to have a registry office type wedding. After all, it%26#39;s going to be a small affair! I%26#39;d also really appreciate any information on city centre hotels where we could stay, as well as any treats that we could book for the happy couple after the ceremony.
Many thanks indeed!
Getting married in New York
There are lots of different ways you can get married in NY, I did it myself not so long ago!
I think the best thing you can do as you%26#39;re only starting out looking at the options for your sister is to put ';wedding'; in the search box in the top right of this reply, read through all of the previous posts and let us know where you want to go from there.
Getting married in New York
There are quite a few previous threads on this subject if you do a text search in the box just above. I can tell you I attended a TA wedding at the Ladies Pavillion in Central Park and it%26#39;s a popular spot since it%26#39;s covered in case of rain. There is no fee to use it for a group of 4, but it%26#39;s popular so you might have to wait. ;)
You just need to hire your own officiant. The 2 that get used on this forum are
revles.com (Reverend Leslie, born in the UK but lives here-a man)
and Reverend Alison email
revalison@optonline.net
Many, many others have just had a civil service which can be held in the Manhattan office or Brooklyn or Staten Island or Queens. Here%26#39;s a link to the legal info
鈥bout.com/cs/marriagelicenses/p/newyork.htm
Wow! Thanks for the search suggestion. I had no idea there would be so much info! I%26#39;m preparing tomorrow%26#39;s lessons right now (I%26#39;m a teacher!) but I will get round to reading the search results at some point.....or email them to my sister!
Thanks very much indeed for your help xx
