Consignment shopping around the Javits Convention center?

I%26#39;ll be in the convention and Times Square area with co-workers. I%26#39;m a shopper they aren%26#39;t so much. What should I not miss in the immediate area? I love consignment shopping but also affordable boutiques, gift and clothing shops and quirky restaurants. Any advice?

Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing in the area. But you%26#39;re a short taxi ride to Chelsea, where there are quite a few second hand shops as well as good bargain shopping. I know there%26#39;s a Housing Works second hand store there, you%26#39;ll have to google for the exact address in the West 20s. On 6th Ave. between 17th and 23rd Streets you%26#39;ll find Old Navy, T.J. Maxx, Filene%26#39;s Basement, Burlington Coat Factory. On 7th Ave. and 16th St. is Loehmann%26#39;s.

the Housing Works in Chelsea is on 17th between 7th and 6th Aves

For really good thrift shopping, try East 23rd area.....between 3rd and second Avenues there are three on the south side of 23rd including a wonderful one, the City Opera Shop....and another Housing Works between 3rd and Lex on the north side of 23rd plus another called the Vintage Thrift Shop on Third between 23rd and 22nd.....Unfortunately, this is not near the Javits (nothing is) but would only be a short cab or subway ride from Times Square

there%26#39;s another one on 23rd between 6th and 7th - more vintage than consignment... not sure of prices... There are more on West 18th, 19th and I think 20th between 5th and 6th. Then there are even more in the east village

Keep in mind that, due to lack of space and land, the Javits Center was built years ago in a ';wasteland';, near the municipal car tow pound and some car dealerships, because that was the only area that could accommodate a large convention hall.

Now that time has passed, Javits is considered ';small'; by national convention hall standards, and land has been rezoned. More industrial buildngs in the area being convereted to residential apts. or brand new ones are being bult.

But, be that as it may, as others have said above , you still need to get out of the immed aarea of the Javits to find civiliazation.

P.S. Hosuing Works has a lot of very high quality things.

Thanks so much folks!! I%26#39;ll check out the locales above and plan on hopping on the subway, bus or take a taxi to the other areas. I%26#39;m sure I can get an afternoon or morning off. I%26#39;m excited~
