Affinia Dumont or Manhattan for NYC First Timers

We%26#39;ve decided to spend our 6 days in December at an Affinia (due to the reviews on TA) and now we just have to decide which one. My question is: In your opinion, is the Dumont easily accessible (i.e. subway) to Times Square, Central Park, etc.? Thanks!

The Dumont is a nicer, newer hotel. The Manhattan is closer to Times Square. The Affinia 50 is closer than both to Central Park. I would chose the Dumont over the Manhattan, but not all would agree with me. ;)

Most places in the city are easily accessible to other places.

The Dumont is on 34th Street between 3rd %26amp; Lexington Avenes, 2-1/2 blocks to the #6 subway line, 3 blocks to the Empire State Building and 34th Street shopping. 4 blocks to Macys, walkable to Grand Central Terminal and Times Square, and the 34th Street crosstown bus.

What I like about it is the neighborhood, lots of locals, good places to eat, small shops and very safe.

That being said, either is a good choice.

Thanks nywhiz! It doesn%26#39;t seem that one can go wrong with any of the Affinias, but I agree with you on the Dumont.

NYCgirl, that%26#39;s a good point about the safe neighborhood and just one more reason I like the Dumont. Thanks!

We stayed at the Affinia Manhattan last year and can thoroughly reccomend it, I`m sure the Affinia Dumont will be excellent too. We didnt realise before we went but after we came back valued the fact that Penn station was just across the street from the Affinia Manhattan, this made it really easy for us to plan our subway routes quickly, we really got to grips with the subway and loved it, in fact in guide books etc lots of people will say Penn Station is a dump etc BUT for us out of towners it was a huge heaving mass of gritty New-York-ness which to us was very cool, oddly we still speak fondly of Penn Station lol, yes Grand Central is %26#39;grand%26#39; and very nice but for me Penn Station was eminently functional and a good experience. (oops I just went into a huge ramble about Penn Station lol)

We stayed at Affinia Dumont in June for 3 nights, we loved it %26amp; the area, then we stayed at the Shelburne Murray Hll on Lexington cnr 37th Ave for 4 nights - which we also liked. Though the Shelburne was a bit outdated (decor %26amp; carpet) it was closer to Grand Central station, loved the rooftop bar views of Chrysler %26amp; Empire Buildings, the restaurant/bar downstairs %26amp; the bigger lounge area. Murray Hill area is good. Both hotels are Affinias, so beds %26amp; pillow menu were the same, unfortunately still at this stage I cant decide which I liked better, sure Dumont was more modern but then the views from the rooftop of shelburne were great. Good Luck ps the shelburne had a bigger kitchen eg full size fridge, we had a 1 bedroom suite.

Hi

Stayed in Affinia Manhattan in September and thought it was great - large room, very helpful staff, etc, etc. Bed wonderfully comfortable and kitchen area very useful. A little bit noisy at night (not a problem to us). However, I have been to NYC several times and always stay at a different hotel! Found this one to be just a little bit too far south of Times Square. However subway is very accessible and we used it (and buses) quite a bit as 5th Avenue and Central Park are a long walk away.

Am returning in Nov for Thanksgiving and staying at Courtyard Marriott Times Square which seems more central.

Whichever you choose, you will enjoy it I am sure!
