Where in Hoboken ??

My daughter, husband and 2 babies are moving to NYC on Oct 12.

They have been advised to rent an apt in Hoboken at 333 River Street. Does anyone have an opinion about the apt building or Hoboken itself ? We hope to visit them soon - restaurant recommendations greatly appreciated.

Where in Hoboken ??

If I recall correctly, 333 River Street has some apartments with Manhattan views. There are lots of good restaurants in Hoboken--there%26#39;s even a Grimaldi%26#39;s Pizza. For more detailed restaurant info --- www.hoboken411.com

Where in Hoboken ??

Hoboken is one of the towns across the Hudson River from Manhattan. In recent years it%26#39;s been a place for younger people who can%26#39;t afford Manhattan or want more space than they can get in Manhattan to live. It%26#39;s particularly convenient for people who work in downtown Manhattan. There%26#39;s a PATH train and ferry service. I would imagine your daughter and family will move into temporary housing first and look at Hoboken and perhaps some other areas. Frank Sinatra was famously a Hoboken boy.

Hoboken would be a nice place to stay with a very quick and easy commute to the west side of Manhattan.

It%26#39;s definitely its own town, despite the proximity to New York. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops. It%26#39;s popular with people who work in the financial district, though apartments could not be considered cheap by most standards anymore. It definitely had more of a bohemian spirit up until early 90s, and now tends to feel like an overgrown college campus at times.

Still, if this is your first experience living on the metro area, especially with a family, it%26#39;s a good choice.

As for restaurants, I love Karma Cafe for Indian. The food is always well-spiced and lacks the greasiness of many lesser Indian places:

And you really can%26#39;t miss the (arguably, of course) best chef in Hoboken: Maricel Presilla at Zafra/Cucharamama:

Zafra is the more casual of the two, but both of them serve maybe the best Latin food I%26#39;ve had in the NYC-area.

All the comments about Hoboken are correct, it%26#39;s a great town with an easy commute to NYC. It%26#39;s been heavily yuppified with professionals looking for cheaper rents but a good commute into NYC (not that rents are cheap, just cheaper than NYC). Commonly, couples move out of Hoboken when their kids come of school age (I have no personal knowlege of Hoboken%26#39;s schools but I stand by my statement about how young parents view the schools).

I see that the apartment you mention actually has there own web site! http://www.333riverstreet.com/s/homepage. Looking at the map, it%26#39;s 3 blocks off Washington St, the main commercial street, and I%26#39;d guestimate a 5-10 min walk to the PATH subway to NYC. It%26#39;s definately a safe area. As another poster points out, PATH is very convenient to the financial district in lower Manhattan, less convenient to midtown locations (just less convenient, not really inconvenient). Where will he/she/they be working?

They will NOT need a car in Hoboken, in fact, a car will be a serious hindrance unless their apartment includes a parking space. Parking in Hoboken is just as hard as NYC.
