help- need advice

I am overwelmed trying to plan a day trip to NY when we are in Conn. for a few days. We are flying into Chicopee Mass on a Saturday night. We need to be in Farmington Conn. Monday and Tuesday. We have all of Sunday free and are renting a car. My husband has never been to NY and I havn%26#39;t been in years. I don%26#39;t really want to have our car to drive in NY to see the sights. I am trying to figure out where we could stay near NY on Saturday night that would not cost a fortune and parking would not cost a fortune. We could take a train or bus or subway into N Y and use the public transpotation the day we are there and go back Sunday night and head to Conn. Any Ideas????

Since you are doing this on a Saturday, I%26#39;d suggest looking into driving and parking your car in Stamford, CT and taking Metro-North Railroad into Grand Central Terminal (www.mta.info) There is a parking garage at the Stamford station.

There is closer train service in Waterbury, but the trains on weekends are much more limited.

So, when exactly do you wish to be in NYC?

Your post is a bit confusing.........

Please clarify your schedule for the City.

I think they were looking to stay somewhere between Farmington, CT and NYC so that they could then take public transportation into NYC.

My dates are Nov 3-6 2007. Thanks for the quick response.

Just drive down into Stamford. Park your car. Take the railroad in.

Very simple.

Or drive to New Haven and park there and take MetroNorth into New York, the train leaves every hour, at least.

Unless you are flying a private plane, you are not flying into Chicopee, you are flying into Bradley Airport, which is in Windsor Locks, CT

This posting is confusing...

BobbyC - thanks for your comment - I%26#39;m still not sure what%26#39;s up here.

They%26#39;re flying in Sat. Nov 3.

Sunday Nov 4 is day they have free and they want to go into NYC.

Monday Nov 5 and Tuesday Nov 6 they have to be in Farmington, CT

We are flying Sky bus from Columbus Ohio to Chicopee. Thats where Sky bus flies into. It costs $10.00 for the first 10 seats. Check it out at www.skybus.com.

You say you%26#39;re flying into Chicapee Mass on Sat. night? I don%26#39;t know what time you%26#39;re flying in, but that%26#39;s pretty far from NYC. I think you%26#39;ve underestimated distances. The nearest Metro North station (commuter train) from Chicapee seems to be Waterbury Ct. which is more than an hour%26#39;s drive from that airport and the only train from there on a Sat. night seems to be 7:20 pm and takes more than 2 hrs. to get to NYC with a transfer in Bridgeport. If you waited til Sun. morning, there%26#39;s a 7:20am train that would get you into Manhattan in about 2 hrs. but I don%26#39;t think Waterbury is a very nice place to stay.

You%26#39;d have to drive pretty far west or south to get to another Metro North train station. Amtrak.com is another train option but much more expensive. There%26#39;s Amtrak service from Springfield (which is close to Chicopee) or Hartford. That will take more than 3 hrs. and it doesn%26#39;t look like there are any evening trains. On the airport website there%26#39;s some more info. I%26#39;d call the airport and ask for their help.

I know there is bus service from that area into Manhattan but I don%26#39;t think that%26#39;s what you had in mind.
